King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have unveiled details of their three albums coming in October - Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms And Lava, Laminated Denim and Changes - and have released new cut "Ice V" to accompany the news.

After teasing three new records landing in October last week, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have shared details of the three albums, and have released "Ice V" as the lead single from the first record Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms And Lava, which arrives with a Danny Cohen-directed video.

Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms And Lava will be the first of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's trio of albums, arriving on 7 October and following April's Omnium Gatherum. It'll feature seven songs, all of which have a running time of over six minutes. Each song follows the seven modes of the major scale - Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian and Locrian - which also inspired the abbreviated album title IDPLMAL.

Stu Mackenzie says of the recording process for the first of the three albums, "All we had prepared as we walked into the studio were these seven song titles. I have a list on my phone of hundreds of possible song titles. I’ll never use most of them, but they’re words and phrases I feel could be digested into King Gizzard-world."

Laminated Denim will follow on 12 October, and is, according to Mackenzie, "an anagram of Made In Timeland." The album features two tracks, each of which are 15 minutes long.

Changes, the third and final record, will land on 28 October, and is made up of another seven tracks. Mackenzie says, "I think of Changes as a song-cycle. Every song is built around this one chord progression – every track is like a variation on a theme. But I don’t know if we had the musical vocabulary yet to complete the idea at that time. We recorded some of it then, including the version of "Exploding Suns" that’s on the finished album. But when the sessions were over, it just never felt done. It was like this idea that was in our heads, but we just couldn’t reach. We just didn’t know yet how to do what we wanted to do."

"Ice V" is out now. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms And Lava album will be released on 7 October. Pre-order all three albums from kinggizzardandthelizardwizard.com.
