Kelly Moran shares her first taster of new music in five years
Modern composer and pianist Kelly Moran has shared "Vesela" as her first new music in five years. This will be part of a forthcoming three-track EP of the same name.
“Vesela" and "Soft Focus" were rooted in Moran's desire to use her instrument as a means to heal herself from heartbreak and sublimate her feelings of devastation instead of running from them. The final track, "Medusa (Variations on a theme by Sakamoto)” expands upon a short, minimal composition by the famed pianist and composer Ryuichi Sakamoto that he originally created for an augmented reality art exhibit. Moran was commissioned to expand upon Sakamoto-san’s initial work - the song re-harmonises and builds upon Sakamoto-san's initial composition with the late-musician’s own personal blessing.
Vesela follows on from Kelly Moran's 2018 album, Ultraviolet, as well as the Origin and Chain Reaction at Dusk EPs. In celebration of the new music, she is set to perform at Cafe Oto on 11 November as part of Pitchfork Festival London.
