Junior Boys to return with new album The Gore
Ontario electropop duo Junior Boys have announced their seventh album and first in five years. The Gore is due out 12 February 2027 via City Slang and a new single titled "Underneath The Moon" is out now with a video.
The new record from Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemus follows 2022’s Waiting Game and is presented as a companion piece; The Gore closes on the opening chords of Waiting Game, with the idea being that the two records can be looped together. The opening track is also aptly titled "Funny How Time Slips Away".
Greenspan said the lead single, "Underneath The Moon", was inspired by the 2022 Canadian experimental horror film Skinamarink and uses tape loop techniques via a Tascam tape machine.
The Gore was written after the deaths of Greenspan’s father and a close friend from his childhood, over the span of two years. Besides the core duo, saxophonist Colin Fisher, drummer Dale Butterfield, and vocalists Robin Dann and Linnea Sigglelkow feature on the album. Greenspan cited Sly Stone, Basic Channel, early Pan Sonic, and John Chowning as influences, and described the record as louder and fuller than Waiting Game.
Junior Boys have announced events in Brooklyn, Seattle, and Toronto – on 27 January, 30 January, and 2 March respectively – centred on a screening of Michael Snow’s Wavelength, a full playback of The Gore, original visualisers, and a Q&A with Greenspan.
