June McDoom signs to Jagjaguwar and details debut album, Follow The Light

Follow The Light will be McDoom's first new music released on Jagjaguwar, and follows two early EP releases. She developed a meticulous approach to songcraft with her partner Evan Wright, which involved stacking parts overtime and keeping the sound minimal. Lead single "Without You" introduces that approach with live drums running alongside a dub bassline and shoegaze-leaning swells.

“I wrote ‘Without You’ about that feeling of realizing how meaningless life can feel without the person/people you love, and how you can feel like nothing without them around," McDoom says of the track. "I wanted the arrangement to reflect the emotional journey of that realization. The ending celebrates the awareness and commitment to never take that person for granted, because it’s never too late to change how you’ve been.”

The album incorporates different sounds that McDoom loves, merging reggae, dub, and folk, calling upon her experiences of hearing her dad's DJ sets growing up, and her grandfather's commitment to keeping rural Jamaican acoustic folk music alive.

Ahead of the album's release, McDoom will be playing two London shows, including an intimate showcase at Rough Trade West following her performance at End of the Road Festival next month. She has also announced North American tour dates set for this autumn and winter, beginning with an album release show in Boston.
