Watch Julien Baker and jasmine.4.t cover System of a Down at SXSW
Julien Baker made an appearance at SXSW in Austin, Texas earlier today, during jasmine.4.t's set at the Radio City stage for a surprise cover of System of a Down's "Toxicity"
Baker – who co-produced and played on jasmine.4.t's debut album You Are The Morning with her boygenuis bandmates Lucy Dacus and Phoebe Bridgers – joined the Saddest Factory-signed singer/songwriter Jasmine Cruickshank to perform "Skin on Skin" as well as the title title track from System of a Down's 2001 record, "Toxicity".
Cruickshank spoke to Paste about the song's significance in an interview back in January. It was, she explained, a CD that her friend Yulia Trot was allowed to have during her detention in a Surrey prison, where she was held for allegedly “disrupting the Israeli genocide machine."
Julien Baker's new record Send A Prayer My Way – recorded with TORRES – is released on 18 April.
Jasmine.4.t plays the Best Fit SXSW official party today at the Swan Dive, before joining Lucy Dacus for her US tour throughout April and May; her own UK tour kicks off in Glasgow on the 21 May with a headline show at the Lexington in London on 27 May.
