Josh Caffé signs to dh2 and details upcoming EP, The Velvet Hour
London-based artist, DJ, and vocalist Josh Caffé has announced his signing to dh2, shared details of his new EP, The Velvet Hour, and released new single, "Limousine".
The Velvet Hour will arrive as Caffé's debut project on the dance label, with "Limousine" offering a glimpse into the collection of songs.
Speaking about the new single, co-produced alongside Quinn Whalley of Paranoid London, with George Daniel contributing to the arrangement and Margot Broom on mixing, he explains: “‘Limousine’ is basically a song about infidelity and the emotional mess that comes with it, which is something a lot of people can relate to in one way or another. It’s a fictional story about a partner who’s constantly playing games, sneaking around and choosing to spend his time chasing distractions and seeing someone on the side, even at ridiculous hours of the morning.
"The idea of ‘taking a ride in my limousine’ is symbolic. The limousine represents luxury, excess, and that kind of detached lifestyle, but it also becomes a space where the character is forced to reflect on his actions and think about what he stands to lose if the relationship finally falls apart. So underneath the glamour, the song is really about selfishness, emotional avoidance and the consequences that eventually catch up with you.”
The Velvet Hour is made with the "hedonistic" energy of the dancefloor, inspired by Caffé's experiences of queer club culture within spaces such as IsBurning, Adonis, Panorama Bar and Horst Festival. Drawing influence from artists ranging from Prince to Gaspar Noé, he describes it as, “that window where you can really experiment sonically and when you’re locked in with the crowd, the connection can feel primal, seductive and playful all at once.”
