Jonah Yano announces new album Spin and shares two songs
Japan-born, Montreal-based avant-pop artist Jonah Yano has detailed his fourth studio album, Spin, due on 29 January 2027. Two songs, “Spin” and “Holding On”, are out now.
The 11-track record, which includes shades of art pop, Midwest emo, minimalism, and jazz, was written and arranged across Montreal and Hokkaidō, then recorded at Port William Sound in Mountain Grove, Ontario, over five days. Port William Sound is a go-to studio for Canadian DIY artists, having hosted the likes of fanclubwallet, The Constantines, Land of Talk, and Heaven for Real.
Yano is backed by his long-time band, The Heavy Loop, on the record, with additional production from Scott Zhang (aka Monsune) and engineering by Jonah Bonnetta.
Yano was born in Hiroshima in 1994 and moved to Vancouver at four. After moving to Toronto in 2016, he began recording demos on his phone and became part of the city’s underground music community. Past collaborators include Mk.Gee, BADBADNOTGOOD, Clairo, Helena Deland, Ouri, Le Ren, Slauson Malone 1, Mustafa, and his father Tatsuya Muraoka.
Spin follows 2020’s souvenir, 2023's portrait of a dog, and 2024’s Jonah Yano & the Heavy Loop. He will embark on his first American headline tour in 2027, with details to be announced.
