“This is the record that’s been the most cathartic": Johnny Marr to return with fifth studio album, The Age Of Everything
Johnny Marr has announced his new album, The Age Of Everything, and shared new single, "Spin".
The Age Of Everything is the first collection of new original material from Marr since his 2022 album Fever Dreams Pts 1-4, which was followed by a compilation album, a live album, and was recently featured on Gorillaz's ninth record, The Mountain. "Spin" is the first preview of the collection of songs, and is accompanied by a music video conceptualised by Marr and filmed in Manchester.
The album was written in London, developed live on the road across the East Coast of North America, and recorded in Manchester. The ten tracks see Marr consider good and bad, while holding on to the promise of the future, on which he explains: “This is the record that’s been the most cathartic. The title came to me early in the process and became an inescapable idea. It seemed to sum up the way I think a lot of people are feeling. It’s all encompassing, but it's not necessarily a negative statement. There’s a sense of overwhelm in the culture brought about by technology, but looking at it with a different light, there could also be a sense of possibility.”
Coinciding with the album, Marr is set to play his biggest live shows to date, with a homecoming performance at Manchester’s Castlefield Bowl on 9 July, and a massive headline show at London’s Wembley Arena on 24 October, following the new release. He's also set to tour Europe and appear at festivals including Down The Rabbit Hole in the Netherlands, OFF Festival in Poland, and more.
