Joe Duplantier and David Eugene Edwards feature on new Cult of Luna album, In the Shadow of Your Shadow

In the Shadow of Your Shadow follows 2023's Vertikal I & II, with vocalist and guitarist Johannes Persson describing the new album as one of the band's darkest and most emotionally devastating works of their career, as it delves into recent experiences of loss.

"We all have our history, we all have our baggage. Everything that you've gone through leads you to where you are right now," Persson says of the inspiration behind the work. "There were certain things that I thought I'd left behind, and certain events during the last couple of years have brought them back."

Lead single "In the Shadow of Your Shadow" arrives as the first preview of the album. The track faces resurfacing trauma, as Persson explains, "'In the Shadow of Your Shadow' is written through the eyes of the traitor within. A battle once fought and believed to be won. A conviction that this venomous part of yourself had been buried so deep it could never return. But it was always there, hidden in the cracks of the persona. Silent. Patient. Waiting for the right moment to emerge once again."

The album was co-produced with Daniel Berglund and mixed by Magnus Lindberg. It features Gojira singer Joe Duplantier and Wovenhand singer David Eugene Edwards, with the band continuing to expand on the sound they've developed over the past two decades. "Stagnation is the only thing that scares me," he continues. "I've said this in every interview I've done for the past 25 years: I don't care whether or not people think we're repeating ourselves. As long as we feel like we aren't, we will continue to do this."
