jo from school makes Chess Club Records debut with first single, "Chicken"
Following her recent signing to Chess Club Records, jo from school — the project of London-based singer-songwriter Jo Geller — has released her debut single, "Chicken".
"Chicken" was produced by by Hugo M. Hardy (Nieve Ella, Esme Emerson, Matilda Mann), and sees Geller channel the emotions of what it's like to break up with someone for the first time. The track arrives alongside a music video co-directed by Geller and her creative collaborator Rosa Levenson, offering a first look into the creative world of jo from school.
Speaking about the single, Geller explains: “‘Chicken’ represents fear, shame and embarrassment. It’s about leaving a person and a time behind. ‘Chickening’ is about cowardice, but is also a reference to the beautiful & cheap ‘chicken’ wine my friends and I love dearly. The lyrics of Chicken sound themselves quickly. Usually I'm more meticulous on my choices and phrasings but this time the process was to let me say whatever I needed to get out.”
