JFDR signs to Houndstooth and releases new single "The Orchid"
JFDR has announced her signing to Houndstooth, and celebrates the news with her first single of 2022 "The Orchid".
"The Orchid" is JFDR's first outing since her score for Sisterhood arrived in May last year, and is teamed with a Joseph Burgess-directed video.
JFDR, real name Jófríður Ákadóttir, says of the single, "I call all my songs orchids. I am obsessed with the flower. It’s a very cunning flower, its beauty has led it to become the most popular plant or flower in the world. It symbolises (among other things) fertility, and I was thinking a lot about rebirth and a new beginning. Fertility, creativity, beauty and mystery are all embodied by the orchid."
The new song was produced by JFDR alongside Joshua Wilkinson, and features synths from Shahzad Ismaily, violin/viola from Viktor Orri Árnason, as well as other contributions from Wilkinson and Jeremy Malvin.
She's yet to follow up 2020's New Dreams album.
