Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Elliott Skinner has detailed his debut EP, How Far We've Come, and shared lead single “DON’T BE A RUNNER".

The EP follows previous standalone singles “RECALLING” and “I Linger On”, with "DON'T BE A RUNNER" being the first taster of the collection of songs. Speaking about the song, Skinner explains: “My hope is to continue this lineage of making more music to not only move you, but move you towards something,” says Skinner. “We often think about courage existing in the absence of fear but often, they are inextricably linked. The release of this song is the beginning of a new era for me. Not a running away or a running towards, but a conscious stepping.”

Raised in Texas, Skinner spent a decade in New York City developing a sense of community while exploring what art mean to him — having written his first song twenty years ago. He has since worked alongside Chaka Khan, Jon Batiste, Zayn Malik, Chance the Rapper, Saya Gray, Leon Bridges, and more Sam Smith. “All of that time and experience was needed for me to understand the artist I have become and am becoming,” he reflects. “This is an introduction to the world that I've been building.”

How Far We've Come touches on the passage of time, doubt, the feeling of getting older and reconnecting with a sense of childhood wonder. It also features Jensen McRae, Victoria Canal, and Radamiz. “There is no other way to describe my music other than Black,” Skinner says of the EP. “Following in the footsteps of my ancestors and inspirations — the sonic experimentation, the self realisation, the expression as a necessary tool for survival — to not only pursue to understand oneself, but to understand others.”
