Jeff Tweedy shares cover of Neil Young's "Helpless" by son Sammy to mark his 23rd birthday
Jeff Tweedy has marked his son Sammy's 23rd birthday by sharing his cover of Neil Young's "Helpless".
Sammy Tweedy often plays live with his dad Jeff, and today (22 December) on Sammy's 23rd birthday, Jeff gave him a birthday shout out via his Starship Casual Substack, and also shared Sammy's cover of Neil Young's "Helpless" that's available to subscribers.
Jeff Tweedy wrote, "Sammy is 23 today! He’s a mensch. Based on our (Susie’s and my) children’s birthdays, one could extrapolate a solid theory about the lulls in Wilco’s mid-to-late 90’s touring schedules."
"We sing together a lot. And over the last few years, Sammy has been a member of the band that tours with me when I play my solo records live. (The Tweedy band, as we call it. Natch.) At the end of our shows we often cut loose with a few covers. And when Sammy steps up front to sing lead he always steals the show. So here he is stealing the show with Neil Young’s “Helpless.” Love you Sammy. Happy Birthday*!"
Earlier this month Jeff Tweedy paid tribute to Christine McVie with a cover of "Little Lies".
