Jason Molina tribute LP to feature Trace Mountains, Teen Suicide, MJ Lenderman, and more
Run For Cover previews Jason Molina tribute I Will Swim to You with new track from Trace Mountains and Teen Suicide, ahead of its 5 September release featuring MJ Lenderman, Sun June, and more
Due next month, I Will Swim to You: A Tribute to Jason Molina gathers twelve contemporary indie acts to reinterpret tracks from the late songwriter's catalogue, spanning his work as Songs: Ohia, Magnolia Electric Co., and under his own name.
Trace Mountains' Dave Benton said he first encountered Molina's work while seeking a label for his 2020 record, Lost in the Country, opting for a "piano-forward arrangement" of his favourite track for the tribute. Teen Suicide's Sam Ray described "Whip Poor Will" as a long-standing live staple for the band.
Also featuring Horse Jumper of Love, Hand Habits, Sadurn, Advance Base, Runnner, Friendship, Another Michael, and Lutalo, the compilation will donate 10% of profits to MusiCares, which supported Molina during his struggles with addiction. Artwork comes from William Schaff, who created the cover for Magnolia Electric Co., and an exclusive split 7” will accompany the release, including a previously unheard Molina demo.
Pre-orders are available now via Run For Cover Records.
