Jarvis Cocker, Beth Orton, Rufus Wainwright and Anna Calvi lead Barbican tribute to Marianne Faithfull

Jarvis Cocker, Beth Orton, Anna Calvi and Rufus Wainwright will gather at the Barbican next month to celebrate the life and work of Marianne Faithfull, paired with a screening of the new documentary Broken English.

Organised by Vue Lumière and the Barbican, the evening will see Cocker, Orton, Calvi and Wainwright take on songs from across Faithfull’s six-decade career backed by a house band led by musical director Rob Ellis (PJ Harvey), featuring Colin Greenwood (Radiohead), Ed Harcourt, Anna Phoebe and Adrian Utley (Portishead). Actor Samantha Morton is also scheduled to appear, reading a poem from Faithfull’s 2011 spoken word album She Walks In Beauty.

The concert follows a preview of Broken English, the career-spanning portrait directed by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard (20,000 Days on Earth). Made with Faithfull’s participation before her death in January 2025, the film blends documentary footage with fictional elements and a cast led by Tilda Swinton and George MacKay, including Nick Cave, Courtney Love and Suki Waterhouse. The movie has already screened at the Venice, Sundance and BFI London film festivals.

The special event runs on 18 March, ahead of the film's UK and Ireland theatrical cinema release two days later on 20 March with tickets onsale now.
