Holy Motors to return with new album, Heaven's Night
Estonian band Holy Motors have revealed the details of their third album, Heaven's Night, and released new single "Tough Crush".
Heaven's Night arrives six years after the band's second album, Horse, and is said to see them enter uncharted territory as they begin to incorporate pop and new wave textures into their sound. "Tough Crush" arrives as the latest preview of the collection of songs, following title track and album opener "Heaven's Night".
Speaking about the song, singer Eliann Tulve says: “I saw a tough dancer at a party and developed a heavy crush on their moves. The night was slow & quiet so we went on a drive. As we passed another CircleK on the road I realise they’re a dry companion and it’s time to go home. So is this heaven, is it something else?”
Heaven’s Night is the first album that the band has fully recorded in Estonia at Ö Stuudio in Tartu. Speaking about the recording process, guitarist Lauri Raus says: "Recording at Ö Stuudio in Tartu was like setting up in a pawn shop of dusty relics where we could turn the amps up loud. It would never open, serve after-hours, and of course swing senselessly between what's right and wrong in the process.”
It's also their first album since guitarist Ivar Mägi and multi-instrumentalist Villem Sarapuu joined original members Tulve, Raus, and drummer Caspar Salo. Across the songs, Tulve and Raus write about characters searching for more across the American West, moving away from the melancholy of Horse while adopting a new sound that they describe as "sweet as dripping honey, sad like summer rain."
