Helena Gao and Shushu team up for new single, “lao wai [老外]”
Helena Gao has released “lao wai [老外]” featuring Chinese underground artist Shushu, the latest preview from her upcoming EP, Gao Dan Dan.
The track was self-produced by Gao, and is described as a "flighty pop anthem" amidst a collection of songs that see the artist exploring her identity. The term "lao wai" means "foreigner", with the song giving insight into Gao's perspective of feeling like an outsider.
Gao Dan Dan follows a successful year for Gao, who featured on Zara Larsson’s Midnight Sun: Girls Trip earlier this year, co-producing nine tracks on the album alongside Margo XS and MNEK, and ultimately receiving a nomination for Best Dance Pop Recording at this year’s GRAMMY awards.
Gao Dan Dan is released on 10 September via After All Recordings
