Helena Deland, Das Beat, and more to feature on N NAO double album, Nouveaux Langages

N NAO — the project of Montréal experimental pop singer-songwriter Naomie de Lorimier — has announced her new album, Nouveaux Langages, and shared new single, “Fleuron”, featuring Helena Deland.

Nouveaux Langages features collaborations, remixes, and unreleased demos to expand upon N NAO’s 2025 album, Nouveau Langage. A reimagined version of “Fleuron” featuring guitar and additional lines from Canadian singer-songwriter Helena Deland arrives as the first preview of the extended collection of songs, alongside a self-directed video.

Speaking about the collaboration with Deland, Lorimier says, ”Helena and I have known each other since our beginnings in the Montreal music scene. Her voice has a familiar character to me that is so comforting. It touches me to the heart, moves me, and makes me cry every time. This is the first time we've created music together and something magical happened.

“A decade after our foundational meeting, I am moved by this version of ‘Fleuron’, which Helena has made her own, adding the perspective of reading and writing, she who has been a lover of literature ever since I’ve known her. In the studio with Patrick Holland (James K, Jump Source, Tops), everything happened fluidly and with joy; I was impressed by how naturally the song took shape under the enlightened direction of my oh-so talented friend. It’s the kind of collaboration that leaves a mark, that forges and, above all, makes you want to start again. A delight.”

In addition to Deland, the album features contributions from Lou-Adriane Cassidy, Das Beat, Ben Shemie (Suuns), Regularfantasy, Sea Oleena, Bénédicte, and Lorimier’s longtime collaborator Charles Marsolais-Ricard (aka Charlin).

Speaking about the composition of the album, which is split between two volumes, Lorimier explains, ”On one side, we have Volume I – the remixes, and on the other, we have Volume II – the demos. These 16 songs—8 on one side and 8 on the other—are added to the core of the story, like the prologue and epilogue that situate the original album in its context. Volume I (remix) being the ‘after’, hence the re-use of the album's vocabulary to write its continuation, and Volume II (demos) being the ‘before’, hence the original narrative of the story.

“For me, art is first and foremost relational. That is to say, when I write, it's for the people I love; my primary motivation is to initiate contact with others when I sing. This album has a pretty strong symbolic significance for me since it contains, both the very solitary aspect of my creation, and my very first 8 collaborations with artists whose work I admire. Also noteworthy is that mixing 10 songs from A to Z myself is a first for me—I trusted my ears, in fact, I simply trusted myself, a new step forward for the musician that I am. I pushed myself and I am very proud of it. With the release of Nouveaux Langages, I am now closing the chapter on fire to make way for air.”
