Grumpy share shoegaze-inspired single, "Twenty Five"

Grumpy — the NYC-based project led by Heaven Schmitt (they/he) — have released their new song, "Twenty Five", their first new music of 2026.

"Twenty Five" follows Grumpy's 2025 EP Piebald, as well as a series of collaborative singles recorded with Sidney Gish, Precious Human, Claire Rousay and Pink Must. The track takes inspiration from 90s shoegaze and is about Schmitt’s girlfriend and bandmate, Ellie Long, and time travel, as Long has admitted that she wishes she could go back in time and transition as a little kid to experience girlhood.

Speaking about the song, Schmitt explains, "Ellie and I were at home and we were talking about being trans and time travel, and she said she wished she could go back in time and transition at a younger age. I then had such a sefilsh thought; I worried that, if she went back in time and changed something, what if it altered the future such that we never met? So I told her, if she ever gets the opportunity to travel back in time, make sure she can get back to me and meet me in 2025. The lyrics in the beginning sum it up 'when you travel back, leave a clue so that you can still find me when you get to 2025.'”

"Grumpy" is out now via Bayonet Records
