Grace Inspace channels “liberating” anger on new track, announces EP
TODO Records-signed Grace Inspace Garner has detailed her new EP, Heavy Hair, and released its lead single, "Emergency Contact", a song that she describes as "anger, long suppressed, finally spilling over and becoming the spark for change."
Linking the new work to childhood drawings and telling her mother her “hair felt heavy with emotions" were also an inspiration behind the track. “I saw those drawings again before writing this song and to me it captured how women are taught to please, to smooth over, to silence any emotion deemed ugly or excessive,” Garner explains. “The song came to life almost entirely in one night. It poured out and was one of the most liberating writing experiences I’ve had.”
The EP, which drops at the end of February, was created with collaborators including Luna Li, Josh Mehling of Shelly, and the Mulherin twins with a process aimed to fuse “classic pop grandeur with indie grit and the warmth of live instrumentation".
Garner was raised between LA and London, has developed a nomadic creative process, often writing from an Airstream trailer in Northern California’s Jedediah Smith Redwoods.
