GoFundMe launched to help Television guitarist Richard Lloyd fight cancer

“I am usually a pretty upbeat person and I am taking this in stride, but it has become very difficult on our own and financially we are strapped," Lloyd said. "That’s why I’m asking for your help. If you can see your way clear to make a donation please do that. Otherwise, please pass it around to your friends that might help and people that know me.”

The GoFundMe was launched by Lloyd's friend and bandmate in the Richard Lloyd Group, Sean Seymour. "Richard is currently unable to tour," he wrote. "For a working musician, that’s devastating - not only because performing is what he loves, but because touring is his primary source of income. Richard and his wife, Sheila, are now facing serious financial pressure. Sheila is Richard’s full-time caregiver and is unable to work because Richard needs constant support."

The $80k goal will go towards covering medical expenses and monthly living expenses, given Lloyd is unable to work and his wife is acting as a full-time caregiver.

Lloyd formed Television in 1973 in New York City with Tom Verlaine and Richard Hell, and they went on to become one of the most influential guitar bands of all time. Their seminal 1977 album Marquee Moon is often considered among the best albums ever. Lloyd has sporadically released seven solo albums since then, most recently 2018's The Countdown.
