Future Utopia explore what it means to be uniquely human on upcoming album, Being Human
Future Utopia — the project led by producer Fraser T. Smith — have announced their third album, Being Human, and shared new single, “The Wire”.
Being Human follows 2024's Django's High, with "The Wire" arriving as the second preview of the album after "Spiritual Machines", released in March. “This track explores the tension between connection and disconnection in an increasingly digital world,” Smith says of the single. “Inspired by the rapid evolution of technology and AI, the song reflects on what it means to me to stay grounded, empathetic and truly human while navigating change. How can we preserve our sense of balance, community and shared humanity as the lines between digital and physical worlds continue to blur.”
Future Utopia was recorded at Smith’s Utopia Studio and blends guitars, synths, and electronic textures. It features collaborations including Sergio Pizzorno (Kasabian), who co-wrote “We Could Be Higher”, string arrangements by Davide Rossi, and spoken word or vocal contributions from Alysia Harris, Yomi Sode, Niels Brandt and Tim Gent.
“Future Utopia began as a series of questions,” Smith explains. “The first album, 12 Questions, explored some of the biggest ideas I could think of through a cast of incredible collaborators. Over time, however, I found myself becoming increasingly interested in posing myself questions, not just as a producer and songwriter, but as an artist. Being Human is the culmination of that journey.”
He adds: “At a time when so much of our lives are becoming automated, I found myself drawn to the things that make us uniquely human: connection, vulnerability, imperfection, curiosity, love, doubt and going the long way round in the craft of making a record.”
