Frightened Rabbit and Death Cab For Cutie donate one-of-a-kind signed bass guitar to mental health charity Tiny Changes

Scottish mental health charity Tiny Changes is auctioning a one-of-a-kind Fender bass guitar signed by Frightened Rabbit and Death Cab For Cutie as part of the charity’s first Make Tiny Changes Month fundraiser.

March marks the first Tiny Changes Month, and Grant Hutchison, drummer of Frightened Rabbit, donated the guitar for the auction as he believe's it is a "unique piece of musical history". Explaining the sentimental value behind it he says, "Death Cab For Cutie are a band that we all look up to and are inspired by so when we were asked to support them back in 2008 it felt a bit like a dream."

The guitar was signed by both Frightened Rabbit and Death Cab For Cutie during their 2011 summer tour in the USA, and bidding currently sits at £5,400. Hutchison explains that they had planned to auction it off "at some point", but never found the right time. He adds, "Since then it’s had an illustrious career in a cupboard under the stairs so hopefully we can find it a good home and give it a life again!”

The Make Tiny Changes Month raffle features a number of prizes including an original hand-drawn greeting card by Scott Hutchison, a five-course tasting menu for two at a vegan hotel in Pitlochry, Scotland, plus gifts from the likes of Atlantic Records, Aesop, Dishoom, award-winning author Max Porter (Grief is the Thing with Feathers), Flare Audio, Tens and more. So far, they have raised over £15,000.

Tiny Changes is Scotland’s first national youth mental health charity which was set up in memory of artist and Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison who passed away in May 2018. Since its inception, Tiny Changes has funded over 60 innovative mental health projects chosen by and for young people. 50% of the charity’s current projects are led by young people under 30.

The charity's projects combine activities such as music, sport, technology, outdoors or art with mental health conversations, therapy, research or other early intervention for groups of young people. Tiny Changes' current focus is supporting young people whose mental health is most affected by the cost of living crisis.

The auction went live yesterday (27 March) and will close in nine days. You can find out more and bid here. Visit tinychanges.com for more information on the charity’s work and fundraising efforts.
