Frank Ocean pulls out of Coachella's second weekend
The news comes after days of controversy following his first show in six years, at the first weekend of Coachella.
After rumours of last minute cancellations – following his set being pulled from Coachella's YouTube livestream – Ocean took the stage nearly an hour late to open with "Novacane". The set included live debuts of "Florida" and "White Ferrari", as well the dedicated “Pink + White” to the memory of Ryan Breaux, his brother who died in August 2020 after a car accident in California.
Fans were disappointed by Ocean's set being cut short, which was likely due to him coming on stage late. “Guys, I’m being told it’s curfew, so that’s the end of the show,” Ocean said. “Thank you so much.” As the lights came up, fans booed and chanted “we want Frank.” The festival was later fined by Indio, California city officials for going over curfew.
It has been rumoured that the livestream was cancelled due to last minute changes to Ocean's set. The changes included scrapped plans for an ice skating rink connected to the stage.

It has now been revealed in a statement from Ocean's reps that he will no longer be performing at the festival this week. “Frank Ocean will not be performing at weekend 2 of Coachella. After suffering an injury to his leg on festival grounds in the week leading up to weekend 1. Frank Ocean was unable to perform the intended show but was still intent on performing, and in 72 hours, the show was reworked out of necessity. On doctor’s advice, Frank Ocean is not able to perform weekend 2 due to two fractures and a sprain in his left leg.”
Frank Ocean shared his own statement, saying: “It was chaotic. There is some beauty in chaos. It isn’t what I intended to show but I did enjoy being out there and I’ll see you soon.”
Fans had been anticipating Ocean’s headlining performance at Coachella since 2020, but the festival was cancelled for two years in a row due to the pandemic. A source has told Variety that Frank Ocean will be replaced by Blink-182. Who made a surprise appearance on 14 April. This marked the first time the original trio has played live since 2014.
Coachella's second weekend continues from 21-23 April.
