Dutch artist ELIKIA has today released "Baller", the second single from First Of A Kind. The former professional footballer draws on his Congolese, Dutch, and Nigerian roots for his forthcoming debut album, arriving 20 November.
The single follows September’s "Formula" – the first track from the campaign – and continues an album rollout conceived around ELIKIA’s dual identity as an artist and former player. He played professionally, including as a captain for AFC Ajax, before launching a music career.
Each song on the record is given a position on the pitch. He said of "Baller":
“I was a creative midfielder, and I’ve brought that same creativity into making music. ‘Baller’ is a song I can see players connecting with because it comes from somewhere they know.”
The football and music worlds overlapped earlier this year, when a player named Ansu Fati invited ELIKIA to Monaco to film the video for "Jelele", a song inspired by Fati’s injury setbacks.
