Folk singer-songwriter Florence Rose Broomfield makes debut with new single, "When You're Here"
Florence Rose Broomfield has released her first single, "When You're Here", a folk song about feeling the absence of someone who is physically present, but with their attention somewhere else.
"When You're Here" is formed around Broomfield's voice and guitar, inspired by traditional folk songwriting, with a violin melody from Marika Tyler-Clark. The song was written about the experience of watching someone become fully absorbed in their phone, and the sense of longing and rejection that can come with not receiving a person's full presence.
“‘When You’re Here’ is about feeling the lack of someone’s presence when they are around you because they are tied to their phone," Broomfield explains. "It’s a very modern issue, and one that really affects me because I see so much of myself reflected back in that moment. My longing, my need for validation and attention, and my own sick obsession with the phone. Although it’s a very delicate and pretty sounding song, it’s really about feelings of repulsion and rejection, which aren’t such pretty subjects.”
"When You're Here" is out now on Electric Lizard Recordings
