FOCUS Wales Film Festival unveils its largest programme to date
FOCUS Wales 2025 have announced a selection of 72 short films, including many from local filmmakers for the event which takes place form 9-10 May in Wrexham.
During North Wales’ only BAFTA Cymru-Qualifying Film Festival, a total of 55 films will compete for coveted awards in an expanded range of categories, including drama, comedy, animation, thriller, experimental and live performance. In addition to the competition films, 17 films will be shown as part of the out-of-competition screenings, including six films from local filmmakers in the Wrexham’s Finest section and 11 from across the Celtic regions in the Celtic Stories section.
Robert Corcoran, Film Festival Producer, says: “The FOCUS Wales Film Festival exists to shine a light on the best new and emerging talent from Wales and around the world. This year’s film selection does just that, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to bring filmmakers and audiences together in Wrexham to celebrate their achievements.”
In addition to the film screenings, the festival will feature a full programme of industry panels, networking events and keynote presentations. Speakers include Lee Walters, CEO of Ffilm Cymru; Dai Baker, Sector Development Manager for Screen at Creative Wales; Guto Rhun, Young Audiences Commissioner at S4C; Elise Gallagher, BBC Writers Development Coordinator; Cherie Federico, Director of the internationally acclaimed British art and culture brand Aesthetica, and many others.
