Foals unveil Dan Carey's dub rework of "2AM"
Foals have shared Dan Carey's dub version of "2AM" as the first taster of their Record Store Day 2023 release Life Is Dub.
Last month the 2023 Record Store Day releases were announced, and among them is a dub reworking of Foals' 2022 album Life Is Yours, titled Life Is Dub, and today the group have treated fans to a first preview of the Record Store Day release with Dan Carey's dub version of "2AM".
Yannis Philippakis says of the release, "To me Dan’s dubs are like nocturnal photo negatives of the original; the colours and sounds have been inverted, subverted and sent sideways. Their new groove and swagger has been pushed through analogue circuitry into a night-time companion to Life Is Yours.
A press release states that Carey had two core approaches for the Life Is Dub project, including a "half-time, deep bass style" that was used for "2AM", and more up-tempo tracks where he "would program a new beat around the original kick and snare drums".
The Dan Carey dub version of "2AM" is out now. Foals' Life Is Dub album will arrive on 22 April for Record Store Day 2023.
