Florist's Emily A. Sprague announces new solo album, Cyano
Florist singer Emily A. Sprague has revealed the details of her upcoming album, Cyano, and shared new single, "Sing To".
Cyano is the latest album in a string of solo releases from Sprauge, following Water Memory in 2017, Mount Vision in 2019, Hill, Flower, Fog in 2020, and Cloud Time in 2025. It sees her incorporate signing into her previously instrumental practice, with "Sing To" arriving as the first taster. The track is accompanied by a video directed by Sprague's life and creative partner V Haddad, combining footage from their journeys through Iceland and their life in upstate New York.
Cyano was completed in a month, and it first came together when Sprauge developed an interest in cyanotype photography and the work of botanist and photographer Anna Atkins, who documented flowers through this method. For Sprauge, the photos inspired ideas of a character living on planet 'Cyano', which has been destroyed through misunderstanding. With Cyano, she creates a sound for what this world felt like as a more experimental work. All of the sounds on the album are synthesised, with no samples or acoustic instruments.
