Fay Milton of Savages announces new project, Goddess featuring Shingai, Delilah Holliday, Ex:Re, and more
Goddess, a new collaborative project curated and produced by Fay Milton of Savages, has announced the release of the eponymous debut album, Goddess.
To accompany the announcement Goddess have shared the first single “Shadows” which features vocals from Elena Tonra (Ex:Re / Daughter) alongside Hinako Omori on piano and Ayse Hassan (Savages) on bass guitar.
Commenting on “Shadows” Fay Milton says: “What I love about this track is that it's got this darkness and lightness at the same time. It's got this real thunder and lightning energy. There’s a sparkly piano, very light and delicate, and then this noise bass that runs through it. Elena’s vocal is just completely exquisite, as well as her lyrics.”
“With this project, I have come out from behind the drums and stepped into the producer role, allowing the feminine energy to run strong from the start to the finish of the creative process”, comments Fay Milton. The idea of Goddess stems from the curiosity of what happens when you bring creative spirits together in interesting new combinations.”
Astute listeners will notice that of the ten featured singers, all are female/non-binary, which was a conscious decision on Milton’s part. It’s a nod to the female representation that has been a through-line in her career, while also simply wanting to showcase the artists that she finds the most exciting. “All of the vocalists I was finding most interesting and inspiring were female and non-binary. Gender is not a topic of the Goddess album in any way, but it is a creative parameter of the project, and a very important one. The album is not about gender, but it's working with gender as a creative tool.”
Goddess have announced news of a London live performance and signing at Rough Trade East on Tuesday 3 June featuring appearances by Izzy Bee Phillips (Black Honey), Harriet Rock, Shadow Stevie and Isabel Muñoz-Newsome (Pumarosa).
