Ezra Collective's Ife Ogunjobi unveils interpretation of "Speak Low" by Kurt Weill
London-based trumpeter Ife Ogunjobi has shared his take on the classic Kurt Weill composition "Speak Low" as the latest single to be released from the forthcoming, Chet Baker Re:Imagined album.
“I came across Chet Baker in my early years when I was learning the trumpet and learning jazz music and his music really spoke to me - I thought it was really soulful, really honest," Ife Ogunjobi explains. "Everything from his trumpet playing to his singing was really relatable and I think that’s something I took from his music and from his playing - to be who you are and to say it plainly when you sing or when you play.”
Chet Baker Re:Imagined features an array of international artists spanning R&B, pop, soul and jazz. British artists dodie, Matt Maltese, Matilda Mann, Joel Culpepper, Ife Ogunjobi, Hohnen Ford, Eloise, Poppy Daniels and Puma Blue line up alongside Benny Sings from the Netherlands, Canada’s Stacey Ryan, American artists Delaney Bailey and Mxmtoon, South Korean Sara Kang and Australian-Filipino grentperez.
Chet Baker Re:imagined is released on 11 April 2025 via Decca Records.
