Esme Emerson share "Centipede" and announce UK headline tour
British-Chinese sibling duo Esme Emerson have shared new single, "Centipede", which is accompanied by news of the pair’s biggest UK headline tour to date.
"Centipede" marks their first release since the acclaimed Applesauce EP earlier this year. “Centipede is a song about comparison being the thief of joy,” notes Esme Lee-Scott. “The lyrics represent an inner dialogue between bickering halves that are festering in insecurity. It’s about immaturity, pride and doubt competing for attention in our minds and fuelling an obsession with becoming something better.”
The track is accompanied by a new video directed by Esme, and her own hand-painted artwork in which the ‘Centipede’ she describes as “feared by many as an alien-like insect”, is idolised for its many legs and capabilities. “This longing to metamorphose into something as grotesque as this venomous bug depicts a deep level of self-loathing indicative of a person lost to comparison,” she adds.
The new release coincides with a current run of UK support shows with Sydney Rose, plus an extensive UK & EU run with James Marriott, and comes ahead of the pair’s biggest UK headline tour to date, with shows in Glasgow, Manchester, Brighton, and London.
"Centipede" is out now via Communion Records. General sale tickets for their tour will be available from 10am GMT on 31 October.
