Jasmine.4.t pays tribute to Lucy Dacus at End of the Road Festival secret session
Jasmine.4.t played a poignant cover of Lucy Dacus' signature song "Night Shift" during her Best Fit secret session at End of the Road Festival today.
The cover was in tribute to the Saddest Factory signed singer/songwriter's first time at the festival back in 2018. “I played here with a friend of mine, Lucy Dacus, who took me on tour back in 2018 and has played on this stage as well," Jasmine Cruikshank told the audience. "I drove here and arrived half an hour early to do guest banjo, and that’s also how I met Julien Baker."
Despite rain that persisted throughout the set, the audience remained steadfast for Cruikshank – who was narrowly unable to make the performance due to an injury a few days prior. “I was trying to impress my girlfriend at the skatepark,” she told Best Fit after the set. "I was on a half-pike and fell on my side." Her arm in sling, Cruikshank has torn ligaments in her shoulder and bruised her hip. “I almost cancelled before I realised that I could still play guitar," she explained.
The injury seemed to impose no limitations on her performance – though she was mindful of her delivery on “Night Shift”: "I wanted to do more fingerpicking, but my hands were cold. I could see people singing along to the words and I was worried I’d start to forget the lyrics," she explained.
Baker, Dacus and their boygenius bandmate Phoebe Bridgers produced and played on Cruikshank's debut album You Are The Morning, released back in January.
End of the Road Festival continues today with headline sets from Self Esteem, DIIV, and Viagra Boys.
