Raphael Saadiq, Baby Rose and Sampha to feature on Elmiene's debut album
British-Sudanese singer and songwriter Elmiene has revealed a 27 March release date for his debut album sounds for someone.
The Def Jam-signed artist's 12-track project is described as an intimate meditation on love, loss, and familial legacy, shaped significantly by his relationship with his late father. “Making this album was painful,” says Elmiene. “I felt lonely sometimes, I felt loved sometimes. I felt guilty sometimes and I felt forgiven sometimes but most of all it was an important duty to myself that I needed to fulfil.”
The album’s material draws from what is noted as a two-decade journey of familial experiences, filtered through Elmiene’s memories and stories from his mother. The opening track, “Moment,” sets a reflective tone for the project. The record includes collaborations with Grammy-winning artist Raphael Saadiq and vocalist Baby Rose, with production input from Sampha, Gitelman, and Saadiq, among others.
The album is trailed by new song “Reclusive," which was created following a period of illness in late 2024 and with the playful, everyday honesty of Biz Markie as an inspiration. “The goal was to make it painfully autobiographical,” he explains, “zooming in on the most mundane moment of my life and seeing if it could carry a song. Turns out it could.”
