Ela Minus and Nick León join forces on new EP, qué les pasó a mis amigos?
Colombian artist Ela Minus and Brooklyn-based producer Nick León have detailed their three-song EP qué les pasó a mis amigos?, and shared new single "espiral" ahead of an August release.
The EP — the title of which translates to "what happened to my friends?" — was co-produced by the pair and features contributions from both León’s club-forward production, and Minus' more punk-informed take on electronic music. “espiral" arrives as the first introduction to the EP, which sees them tackle heartbreak, fractured friendships, and disillusionment.
Minus and León first met in Mexico City in 2024. Minus would go on to release her second album DÍA a year later, while León would make his debut with A Tropical Entropy. They first began exchanging ideas in Mexico City before developing them further in Los Angeles this year. Both artists made contributions to each other's work, with León remixing “QQQQ” from DÍA, while Minus featured on León’s A Tropical Entropy track “Ghost Orchid".
“It was so free,” León says of the pair's collaborative process. “There were unspoken understandings of what we wanted to do. That’s not normal.”
qué les pasó a mis amigos?, mixed by Patrick Holland and mastered by Heba Kadry, sees both artists build upon their respective sounds through experimentation, and sees them opening the road for further collaboration down the line.
While the album will be released digitally on 7 August, there will also be a 12” vinyl edition arriving on 20 November, featuring remixes by Loidis, Guedra Guedra, and Brenda.
