Dhani Harrison and and Nigel Godrich to launch new project, Dragonflies, with self-titled debut album

The project sees Harrison – known for his solo work, thenewno2 and Fistful of Mercy – come together with Godrich — the producer renowned for his work with Radiohead, Beck and IDLES, and a founding member of Atoms for Peace and Ultraísta — to create a body of work which draws inspiration from the likes of Portishead's Beth Gibbons, Japan's David Sylvian and Ryuichi Sakamoto.

Album opener "Slower" lands today, alongside a video directed by RUFFMERCY, a Bristol-based animator known for his hand-drawn, psychedelic style.

Harrison and Godrich are longtime friends who admired each other's work, but began working together after Harrison reached out to Godrich during pandemic isolation for guidance on what would become his 2023 album, Innerstanding. They started to look at making something together, and Godrich invited Harrison into his Brixton studio, where the pair began building songs from tape loops.

"It's like one person throwing something in the air and the other person catching it," Godrich says of their process, which saw Harrison step into the role of singer and guitarist, while Godrich shaped the songs in real time. "He's a machine," Harrison says. "He has strong opinions about what he wants to hear, and for me it's very humbling. That's why it's such a new experience."
