Dermot Henry announces debut album Bad Throw, Good Catch and shares new single
West Country folk songwriter Dermot Henry has detailed his debut album, Bad Throw, Good Catch, set for release on 20 November via Island.
Bad Throw, Good Catch was recorded live to tape at producer Dom Monks’ Frome studio – a 15-minute drive from the house where Henry grew up. Monks has previously worked with Laura Marling and Big Thief. The album features contributions from Henry’s family: his mother provides backing vocals on "Your Love Is A Lifetime", while his 93-year-old grandad appears on "Now, Forever", singing a fragment of the old West Country folk song "The Vly Be On The Turmut", the unofficial song of Henry's native Wiltshire.
"I am so proud of how this album balances intention and chaos, humour and despair, and earnestness and irony," Henry said.
The announcement and new single, "I Love You, That’s All", performed yesterday on Later… With Jools Holland, follows a busy summer of festival appearances for Henry, including Green Man, Latitude, BST Hyde Park, and Boardmasters, as well as support slots with Lewis Capaldi. He will head out on an 11-date UK headline tour in November. The run kicks off at London’s Hoxton Hall on 4 November and includes stops in Newcastle, Edinburgh, Leeds, Sheffield, Norwich, Nottingham, Oxford, Brighton, Southampton and Exeter. Tickets are on sale now.
