Danielle Ponder signs to Dead Oceans in partnership with Phoebe Bridgers and shares new single, "Power"

18 June 2026, 14:26 | Written by Kayla Sandiford

Rochester-born vocalist Danielle Ponder has announced her signing to Dead Oceans, and released her new song, "Power".

The signing follows the merger of Phoebe Bridgers' Saddest Factory imprint with parent label Dead Oceans, with all Saddest Factory releases to be distributed through Dead Oceans. Ponder now joins the likes of Mitski, Jensen McRae, Kevin Morby, and more as the latest signee to the label.

Alongside the signing announcement, Ponder returns with "Power", her first new music since 2023. The track was released to honour Juneteenth, a US holiday celebrated annually on 19 June to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. It was inspired by a trip that Ponder took to Dakar, Senegal, when she was seventeen.

Speaking about the single, Ponder comments, "In Dakar I found a brightness in the eyes of the people and an absence of heaviness in their songs. Here, power and leadership all came in the color Black and I began to piece together the source of my own. This song is a love note to the girl I was at seventeen, who crossed an ocean to find a place where she could be. It's a love note to the Black diaspora: may we always remember that we are people who can fly."
