D’Angelo, Jay-Z, and Jeymes Samuel share new single, “I Want You Forever”
On the day of The Book of Clarence's release, D'Angelo, Jay-Z, and Jeymes Samuel have shared "I Want You Forever", which features on the soundtrack.
The new release is D’Angelo’s first new release since 2019, and is “nine minutes and 32 seconds of absolute soulful, biblical bliss,” as expressed by Samuel. Jay-Z co-produced the biblical comedy-drama, having worked with Samuel on 2021’s The Harder They Fall.
Other songs on the soundtrack include, “Hallelujah Heaven", which features Lil Wayne, Buju Banton, and Shabba Ranks, and "Jeezu", which sees Doja Cat and Kodak Black collaborate.
In a conversation between Jay-Z and Samuel on X, formerly know as Twitter, Jay-Z explained that the collaboration was a case of right time and place. “Someone like D’Angelo, he moves in his own speed and his own time, so there’s no planning there. You can’t plan that, you can’t say, ‘OK, I’ve got this song, come over Tuesday.’ It just has to happen like that. The circumstances, the vibes, the music, everything has to be in a perfect space for something like this to happen. Obviously, we haven’t collaborated for our entire careers, so it was meant for this moment right here.”
