Damian Abraham features on new Tanya Tagaq album, Saputjiji
Tanya Tagaq has announced her upcoming album, Saputjiji, and shared new single "Foxtrot", featuring Fucked Up vocalist Damian Abraham.
Saputjiji, which means designated protector, follows Tanya Tagaq's 2022 album Tongues, pointing to an era for Tagaq that is "more commanding, innovative, and pointed than ever. New single "Foxtrot", featuring Damian Abraham of Canadian hardcore band Fucked Up, arrives as a message of protest.
In an Instagram post, Tagaq writes: "Saputjiji. Designated protector. We must stand. We must protect her. The world is choking on the rancid smoke of capitalism. We must breathe. You are being feasted upon. Time to embrace carnivorous tendencies. Defend, protect, embrace."
Songs from the album, produced by Gonjasufi and Jean Martin, will also feature in a second project, Split Tooth: Saputjiji. Tagaq will bring the music to the stage with a new production directed by Kaneza Schaal, which is said to incorporate Targaq's "vocal soundscapes, imagery, and creative world".
