Cor de Lux to make label debut with new album, YEAR OF THE HORSE

25 June 2026, 13:41 | Written by Kayla Sandiford

Following their signing to Ipecac Recordings, North Carolina alt-rock band Cor De Lux have announced their new album, YEAR OF THE HORSE, and shared new single “The Cringe”.

YEAR OF THE HORSE follows previous albums Media released in 2023 and Dream Life in 2020, and will be their first release on Ipecac. The new album was produced by J. Robbins (War on Women, Mary Timony), with "The Cringe" arriving as the first preview.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, which references her time spent abroad in Nicaragua, singer-guitarist Dawn Moraga says, “Living in a developing country really engraved in my heart about knowing what is important and what is not. Materialism fades like bad jeans. The exploitation of the poor to make the rich richer makes my blood boil.”

Bass player John Bliven adds: “‘The Cringe’ explains our disdain of the billionaire ‘elite’ and the system that keeps them rapidly gaining. ‘I make a dollar a day’ refers to CEOs giving themselves a tiny salary while obtaining massive share value.”

Across nine songs, the album balances post-hardcore and shoegaze-inspired sounds that they've balanced over the past few years, having to carve out their own space in North Carolina's Outer Banks. They took a spontaneous approach to the making of YEAR OF THE HORSE, jamming through rehearsals before arriving at a final product. “Usually once or twice a month we will hit on something and go ‘oh no, not another new song,’” Moraga explains.

Following the album's release, the band will play a short run of live shows in the United States, with select dates supporting Slift.
