Cola Boyy announces posthumous second album, Quit to Play Chess
A year on from the passing of Matthew Urango – AKA Cola Boyy – his label, Record Makers, have announced the release of his second album, Quit to Play Chess.
Accompanying the album's announcement is the new single, "Babylon", alongside its music video directed by Joey Frank.
“The video debuts a year after Cola Boyy’s tragic and sudden passing,” Frank reflects. “The dance and location and props and actress are pieced together from text thread about the video between director Joey Frank and Cola weeks and even days before the surprise of his death. We filmed the video in Oxnard on Valentine’s Day, as a thank you to Cola Boyy on the day that would also have been his 35th birthday.”
Quit to Play Chess was created with trusted collaborators Lewis OfMan, Andrew VanWyngarden, co-leader of MGMT, Jared Solomon (Remi Wolf, Lola Young, Fousheé) and Nate Fox (Chance The Rapper and Lil Wayne).
“To lose a brother, a son; there is a wide and hollow space within us that will never be filled. But there is music in that emptiness. We are lucky to still have his voice. His music is like nothing else on this earth, it came from a kid born in space. It warms our hearts knowing our Cola Boyy has so many more people to reach with his style and political convictions. Quit to Play Chess is a masterpiece, rocking our house and community, and if you play it loud and lose yourself you may just feel him there with you," says Matthew Urango’s family.
