CHVRCHES’ side project The Leaving reveals born-from-grief debut album Ultimate Buzz
Martin Doherty of CHVRCHES and longtime collaborator Jonny Scott have unveiled their debut LP as The Leaving, with Ultimate Buzz due for release on 24 April.
According to the band, Ultimate Buzz was built from “existential doubt, love, and the need to be a source of comfort when you feel utterly unqualified”.
The pair, both LA-based expats of the Glasgow music scene, have also dropped new single, “Fluoxetine”, which emerged from a period of insomnia and personal turmoil. The song grapples with grief, loss and the desire to offer comfort while feeling ill-equipped to do so.
Doherty and Scott’s history stretches back decades across Scottish independent music, with both having worked as multi-instrumentalists, songwriters and producers with the likes ofThe Twilight Sad, Aerogramme, Mogwai and Idlewild.
