Chvrches return with new album, All The King's Men

All The King's Men follows a pause that the band — Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty — took in 2023 after touring their album Screen Violence. The trio agreed that upon their return, what they made next would have to challenge and excite them. The upcoming album — which was first previews last month with new single "Roses" — is described as a "self-consciously British, freewheeling collection", with the eleven tracks taking an emotional, indie rock-fuelled direction.

Each member brings different influences to the album, with Doherty reconnecting with British cinema by the likes of like Shane Meadows and Ken Loach, and UK artists like Massive Attack, Siouxsie & The Banshees and PJ Harvey, while Mayberry was exploring a new approach to songwriting with a new storytelling quality and vocal range. Cook began writing with acoustic instruments, listening to more stripped-back artists including Nick Drake, Bert Jansch and Incredible String Band.

All The King's Men explores both British and Scottish culture, with Doherty and Mayberry connected with a sense of the UK's history as "old and real". The album is also a point of strength for the band, as they say that it's forever changed how they'll work as individuals and together.

Next week, Chvrches are set to play two intimate shows in their hometown of Glasgow on 26 October and in London on 29 October, with proceeds going to charity. Although the shows are sold out, the band have also announced a full tour of the UK and Ireland following an extensive run of shows in North America, starting on 13 February 2027. The UK/Ireland leg of the tour will kick off in April 2027, beginning with a show in Glasgow on 23 April, with further stops in Aberdeed, Dundee, Dublin, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, and Norwich, before concluding at London's O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire on 6 May 2027.
