Chutes detail new EP, Brighter than Before
Chutes, the Minneapolis-based fuzz-pop project of Ryan Kemp, have announced a new EP. Brighter than Before will be released 13 November and the first single "Star" is out now with a video.
The five-track collection follows up Nothing's Growing in the Yard, released December 2025. The new material makes fellow Minneapolis DIY artist Anna Devine more central to the process. She sings across the record and stars in the music video, while bass was handled by Chet Goldsberry Hill, drums by Tanner Montague, and synth by Henry Breen, who also produced the EP. Breen has worked with she's green, WHY NOT, and Samia.
Earlier this year, Devine and Kemp, together with Jonny Darko - who directed the "Star" video - organised the Melt ICE benefit album, bringing together over 100 artists from the Minneapolis scene. Devine also put out her own EP back in May.
Check out the video for "Star" below. The second single, "Trace", will be released 23 October.
Chutes play an EP release show on December 4th at 7th Street Entry, Minneapolis, with WHY NOT, bird dog, and abalone.
