Chicago Queer power poppers Pinksqueeze sign to Skeletal Lightning and share “Springtime” video

Pinksqueeze have signed to Urbana, Illinois indie label Skeletal Lightning and released a video for “Springtime” ahead of their second album We Can Have It, out this Friday.

The band joins the likes of Jack M. Senff, gay meat, and Yasmin Nur on the Midwest-focused indie and emo label. The new album, We Can Have It, follows the band’s 2023 debut Be Gay Have Fun, which they said was for fans of Beach Bunny, The Beths, and Illuminati Hotties. Of “Springtime”, they said it opens the record “grounded in hope and new beginnings”. The track was written by April Hickey and features a viola string arrangement.

The record is built around the idea that a better world is possible, moving between noise, emo, and ambient influences. Pinksqueeze release it in memory of Simon Small (also known as Tunnel of Reverb), whose work as sound engineer and producer shaped the album.

Pinksqueeze formed in 2018 as a two-piece with Hickey and Ava Marvin, later adding bassist Anna White and drummer Logan Greenfield. All four members share songwriting and lead vocals. We Can Have It includes songs written individually by each member as well as ones written collaboratively as as four.

The band will tour the US in support of We Can Have It, including a release show at Lincoln Hall in Chicago on 12 December. No UK dates are announced.
