case/lang/veirs announce 10th anniversary edition of self-titled album

case/lang/veirs have revealed the details an upcoming reissue of their 2016 album, case/lang/veirs, and shared previously unreleased single, "Accidental Tattoo".

In 2014, k.d lang, Neko Case, and Laura Veirs decided to make an album together after lang e-mailed the pair, saying, "I think we should make a record together." As Case recalls, "Laura and I both responded immediately. There was no question."

Now, the three musicians have come together again to give case/lang/veirs new life, with newly unearthed single "Accidental Tattoo", and twelve live versions of each other’s songs that were recorded during the original 2016 tour.

Speaking about the origins of "Accidental Tattoo", lang explains, “‘Accidental Tattoo’ is a song that came from a sudden creative spark that happened between all 3 of us a couple of years ago. Neko wrote the lyrics, Laura and I organised Neko’s poetry, adding arrangements and intertwining it with melodies and music. And then I worked closely with Larry Goldings on the actual production to fasten all of it into the song you hear now.”

The original album features fourteen songs with shared lead vocals across all three artists. It was written over two and a half years in Portland, Oregon, where lang and Veirs both live, with sessions taking place in lang's loft, Veirs' dining room and her backyard studio.

Reflecting on the album, Veirs says, “So much in the world has changed since this album first came out in 2016, but when I listen back, these songs still hold up to my ears. I’m proud of what we made together and am thankful for the opportunity to have been part of it. The experience challenged me, taught me a great deal, and ultimately helped shape the artist I am today.”

For the most part, the trio has been busy with their individual projects since releasing case/lang/veirs. Last year, Case released her ninth album, Neon Grey Midnight Green. She is also composing the score for Thelma & Louise: A New Musical, which is set to premiere at London's Young Vic from 3 September. Just last month, Veirs announced her new solo album, Temple Songs for 14 August, and is preparing to tour the UK and Ireland with Karl Blau this September.
