Carole King on Daisy Edgar-Jones playing her in new Beautiful biopic: "She’s a tremendous talent"
Normal People's Daisy Edgar-Jones is set to play Carole King in the film adaptation of the Beautiful musical, and King has praised the casting, saying Edgar-Jones is a "tremendous talent".
Yesterday (15 December) it was announced by Variety that Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People, Where the Crawdads Sing) will play Carole King in Beautiful, a film adaptation of the stage musical of the same name.
Beautiful is set to be directed by Academy Award nominee Lisa Cholodenko (The Kids Are All Right), and produced by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman of Playtone, and Paul Blake. Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg, who co-wrote Kids Are All Right together, are also working on the Beautiful script.
King said of Edgar-Jones, "Daisy has a spirit and energy that I recognised as myself when I was younger. She’s a tremendous talent and I know she’s going to give a great performance."
Beautiful: The Carole King Musical had a five-year run on Broadway, and the stage musical, which starred Jessie Mueller in the lead role, also received a Tony Award.
