Carly Rae Jepsen is back on Broadway – this time as a songwriter rather than a performer. She and Lena Dunham are developing a stage musical based on 10 Things I Hate About You, with first previews set for 17 August 2027.

Variety reports that the production will open next year, with first previews scheduled for exactly a year from now: 17 August 2027. Dunham, who created and starred in Girls, is adapting the book with playwright Jessica Huang, while Jepsen is co-writing the songs with Ethan Gruska, a regular collaborator of Phoebe Bridgers. Christopher Wheeldon, who won a Tony for MJ The Musical, will direct, while Tom Kitt – another Tony winner – will handle arrangements, orchestrations, and music supervision.

Jepsen made her Broadway debut in 2014 as the lead in Cinderella, arriving just as "Call Me Maybe" was still in heavy rotation and as she was working on E·MO·TION, her 2015 album.

Casting and the theatre have not been announced.

Jepsen’s new double album Day And Night is due next month via the labels Interscope and Schoolboy. Advance singles "On Wires", "After All", and "Don’t Leave Me On The Dance Floor" have already been shared.
