Built to Spill's Melanie Radford announces debut solo album, For the Sake of Stillness

07 May 2026, 19:01 | Written by Kayla Sandiford

Built to Spill bassist Melanie Radford has revealed the details of her upcoming debut solo album, For the Sake of Stillness, and shared lead single "Hangin On".

Radford's solo debut arrives after seven years as a member of the Boise band. The album is a collection of ambient folk songs built from field recordings collected throughout her travels while touring with Built for Spill, with "Hangin On" arriving as the first preview of the collection.

For the Sake of Stillness is described as "part meditation, part love poem, part hymn", capturing moments of falling in love throughout life. With bass and vocals by Radford, the album also features contributions from friends, including Lê Almeida (Oruã, Built to Spill) on drums and guitar, Jim Roth (Built to Spill) on synth, pedal steel and added vocals, Lori Goldston (Earth, Nirvana) with cello arrangements, and Cacá Amaral (QMAR, Firefriend) with additional drums.
